Gadolinium – The ‘G_ _d’ and ‘Not-so-G_ _d’

When asked about the rare earth element Gadolinium (chemical symbol ‘Gd’), we typically read that it’s ‘a silvery-white, malleable and ductile rare-earth metal with a metallic lustre.
